King, queen of Bhutan visit disaster-hit Fukushima
TOKYO (Kyodo) -- The king and queen of Bhutan visited Fukushima Prefecture Friday to encourage people affected by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami and the nuclear crisis triggered by the disaster.
King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema visited Sakuragaoka Elementary School in the city of Soma and enjoyed singing and dancing performances by fifth- and sixth-grade students.
The king told the pupils that the royal couple had come to Japan to encourage people suffering from the grave disasters.
Taking a dragon which is depicted in the Bhutan's national flag as an analogy for personality, the king told the students to nurture their personal quality by controlling their emotions while living through such hardship.
