The persimmon was brought to Europe by Portuguese from Japan in the 16th century, and spread to the American continent afterwards.
There is a theory that it was brought to Japan by China at the end of the glacial epoch.
The seed was dug up from ancient ruins in Japan.
The kind eaten now was introduced from China at the Nara era.
