Kumamoto Prefecture's "Kuma-mon" bear mascot and the "Barii-san" bird character from Imabari, Ehime Prefecture, had been in a dead heat for the top spot in this year's "Yuru Chara Grand Prix" (literally "loose characters"), contested by some 349 mascots.
