2008ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating - NHK Trophy, Preview

The 2008/2009 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating continues with the NHK Trophy in Tokyo, Japan from November 27 to 30. The NHK Trophy is the sixth and last event in the series and provides the last opportunity for skaters to qualify for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in December in Goyang City, Korea. The skaters compete for a global prize money of US $ 180, 000 per individual event of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating and receive points according to their placements. This is the 30th anniversary of NHK Trophy.World Champion Mao Asada (JPN) headlines the Ladies field in Tokyo. Asada, who finished second at the Trophee Bompard, is aiming at the title here in Japan. Competition should come from Yukari Nakano (JPN), a silver medalist at Skate America. Asada and Nakano as well as Laura Lepistö (FIN), who took the bronze at the Cup of China, are hoping to qualify for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. Other contenders include 2008 World Junior bronze medalist Mirai Nagasu (USA), Cynthia Phaneuf (CAN), Akiko Suzuki (JPN) and Ashley Wagner (USA).
